After Dark Activation Grants to boost night-time economy

A new grant program aimed to support Frankston City’s transformation into a vibrant, diverse, inclusive and safe destination at night is here!

Designed to revitalise Frankston City’s “bricks and mortar” businesses in the CBD at night and to encourage local business and artisan collaborations, the Invest Frankston After Dark Activation Grants will unlock the City’s night-time potential.

Mayor Nathan Conroy said Council is dedicated to a thriving economy and proactively assisting Frankston City businesses emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Enhancing Frankston City’s night-time economy through the establishment of a night-time activation grant will make an important contribution to the City in terms of economy, image, reputation, creating jobs and in improving the experience of residents and visitors.

“A thriving and dynamic night-time offering comprises a range of experiences including dining, performances, after-hours workshops, live music, events, extended opening hours for shopping, nightclubs, twilight markets, sporting events and delivered by a range of diverse businesses and community groups.” the Mayor said.

With $120,000 total funding pool, the grant covers up to 50 per cent of the total project cost with a maximum of $30,000 per business for a regular night-time program, or a project to support your After Dark initiative.

Applications to submit concepts (Stage 1) opened Thursday, 1 September and close Friday, 16 September, 2022.

“This grant is all about introducing new, safe, diverse and more regular activations to our City at night and providing that initial support to businesses so they can continue their projects and initiatives into the future, is a great start,” he said.

The IF After Dark Activations Program comprises two parts: Stage 1 is the concept phase where businesses are encouraged to submit their concepts. Those shortlisted will be sent through to Stage 2 where applications will be assessed by an independent assessment panel.

Projects can begin from October, 2022.
